Women's Track & Field Notches Five Personal Bests at Widener Final Qualifier

CHESTER, Pa. - The Haverford College women's track & field team competed in the Widener Final Qualifier Meet on Monday afternoon at Widener University, with competitors having one last chance to qualify for the upcoming NCAA Championships. 

Sophia Furman kicked off the day for the Fords, competing in the 400 meters. The sophomore finished the race in 18th place with a time of 1:09.14, marking a new personal best.

In the 1,500 meters, four runners represented the Scarlet and Black on Monday. Anastasia Jaycobs led the Haverford contingent by placing 23rd with a time of 5:03.70, a new personal best by just under three seconds. Following Jaycobs, Jessie Hausman achieved a new personal best of 5:10.77, securing 24th place overall. Judy Xie also secured a personal best, finishing 28th with a time of 5:47.90. Claire Parsons rounded out the Scarlet and Black contingent, taking 30th place with a time of 6:30.89.

Julianna Watson excelled in the 5,000 meters, topping her previous personal best by a remarkable 55 seconds, completing the race in 20:02.48, securing 27th place.

Ella Fleming had a busy day in the sand, competing in both the long jump and triple jump. In the long jump, the junior leapt 4.52 meters (14 feet, 10 inches), securing 11th place, before jumping 9.46 meters (31 feet, one-half inch) to claim 10th place in the triple jump.

The top 22 declared athletes in each individual event will qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The official selection announcement is slated for Friday, May 17th. The NCAA Outdoor Championships will take place from Thursday, May 23rd to Saturday, May 25th, at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
