Weekend finishes for Fords with upset of #32 Boston Univ.

AMHERST, Mass. - Haverford College's men's squash team downed No. 32 Boston University, 8-1, on Sunday morning to close out a weekend trip with a second win in four tries at the Pioneer Valley Invitational.

The 42nd-ranked Fords (5-3) made quick work of the Terriers on Sunday with Andy McComas, Charlie Michele and Nathan Vestrich-Shade rolling to 3-0 victories in the Nos. 1, 4 and 5 slots.

Laurensen Ward faced the biggest challenge of the morning falling behind 2-0 to BU's Allan Chen at No. 6 before rallying for the victory with three straight wins by scores of 11-4, 11-3 and 12-10. At No. 8, the Fords' Will Greer trailed 2-1 but fought back for the win by taking the fourth and fifth games.

Earlier in the weekend Haverford took down No. 44 Northeastern University, 7-2, on Saturday morning. Results were not available until Sunday.

Six Haverford players won by scores of 3-0 over their Northeastern opponents. Ward posted the most dominating score of the morning losing only two points in a win at No. 6 over Alex Scott-Barrett.

The season continues on Saturday with a home doubleheader on the GIAC Squash Courts. In 11 a.m. match, the Fords will take on No. 31 Georgetown University then will finish out the day against 54th-ranked Vassar College.
