PHILADELPHIA - The Haverford College men's squash secured its place in the Conroy Cup final with a methodical 9-0 victory over No. 32 Vassar on Saturday at the Specter Center in Philadelphia. The Fords, ranked No. 29 nationally, improved to 8-11 on the season and continued their dominant run through the CSA Divisional Team Championships with a perfect group play record.
For the second consecutive match, Haverford overwhelmed its opponent with strong performances across the lineup. At the top spot, Noah Tunis battled back from an early deficit to defeat Konstantinos Georgallides in four games, 9-11, 11-3, 11-5, 11-0. After a tight first game, Tunis took full control, finishing with a dominant shutout in the fourth.
Aaryaman Jaising and Henry Jiang turned in two of the most decisive wins of the day. Jaising made quick work of Jarid Haslinger, 11-2, 11-4, 11-2, at the second flight, while Jiang handled Matthew Okulski, 11-2, 11-4, 11-9 at the fourth flight. Kai Schinaman and Qianzhi Zhao faced tougher challenges but responded with poise in four-game wins at the third and sixth flights, respectively. Schinaman edged out Kyle Benson in a closely contested four-game match, 9-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-5, while Zhao rebounded after losing the first game to defeat Luke Chen, 10-12, 11-7, 11-6, 11-3.
Francis Betkowski had the longest match of the day, prevailing in a five-game battle against Gabriel Lugo, 5-11, 11-6, 11-5, 5-11, 11-2. At the seventh flight. After Lugo evened the match at two games apiece, Betkowski delivered a dominant fifth game to secure the win.
Tarun Sargunar (11-3, 13-11, 11-7 over Razaan Lalji), Garret Fantini (11-8, 11-4, 11-6 over Patrick Looby) and Arvin Krishnan (11-5, 11-6, 11-6 over Daniel Smith) each won in straight games, sealing the sweep for the Fords.
With the victory, No. 29 Haverford advances to the Conroy Cup final, where it will look to close out the season with a championship win for the first time since capturing the Chaffee Cup during the 2016-17 season. Haverford will match up with 30th-ranked Denision at noon inside the Specter Center.
