Squash Teams Hold Annual Alumni/ae Day

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College squash teams held their annual alumni/ae matches today at the Gardner Integrated Athletic Center (GIAC) Squash Courts on Saturday afternoon.

A total of 18 former squash players made the trip back to take part against the varsity teams. The alumni/ae that returned were Alex Spiliotes '12, Alex Salton '08, Shanin Specter '80, Peter Boal '13, Andrew Poolman '03, Chris Tyson '13, Jake Ralston '10, Charlie Michele '13, Marc Aldberg '08, Robbie Thompson '13, Arman Terzian '14, Sam Morgan '06, Justin Berlin '86, David Kanthor '99, Caroline Nightingale '14, Randee Johnson '13, Mimi Fuchs '13 and Hannah Miller '13.

The alumni took down the men's team 11-4. Freshmen Richard Dudley and Zach Cole each won two matches in the yearly exhibition. The 15 alumni that participated featured two former No. 1 players in Spiliotes and Salton and two more No. 2 players in Tyson and Boal.

One of the more notable men's matches was between junior Will Greer and Tyson. Greer took the first game 11-9 before Tyson sent the match to a decisive third game with an 11-8 win. The third game featured 14 lead changes and 13 ties as no player held a lead of more than three. Tyson registered the final three points, winning 17-15.

The women's varsity team was victorious over the alumnae 6-2. Seniors Alex LoveSamara Flug, juniors Alyssa KadenEmily Berlin,Sabina Aliev and sophomore Emilia Cobbs were winners.

After dropping the first game vs. Nightingale, Love won 12-10 and 11-6 to secure a victory. The first game between Johnson and sophomore Isabel Agnew had eight lead changes and seven ties before the alumna won 15-13. Agnew fought back with an 11-9 victory in game two before dropping the third game 11-8. After falling 11-9 in game one, Flug rallied to win the final two games 12-10 and 11-7 over Johnson.

The women's squash team (5-2) has won four straight matches and will head to Belmont Hill and MIT next weekend to take on Tufts, No. 24, Wellesley, Northeastern and Northwestern (Jan. 16-18).

The men's squash team (5-2) has recorded three victories in its last four matches and will also head to Belmont Hill and MIT as it will compete against Tufts, MIT, Northeastern and Northwestern (Jan. 16-18).
