Men's Squash Starts Season With Sweep over Swarthmore

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's squash team started its 2015-16 season with a 9-0 victory over the Swarthmore College Garnet on Saturday afternoon at the GIAC Squash Courts.

Sophomore Zach Cole got the scoring started as he swept Chris You (11-2, 11-3, 11-3) at the No. 6 position for his third straight win dating back to last season. Senior Alex Egilman tallied the second point for the Fords with a three-game sweep over Olivia Cheng (11-3, 11-1, 11-3).

Seniors Laurenson Ward (11-2, 11-8, 11-6), Jonathan Nguyen (11-0, 11-4, 11-3), freshman Ryan Dukarm (11-0, 11-1, 11-4), sophomore Peter Dudley (11-7, 11-8, 11-2), freshman Yash Singh (11-6, 11-3, 11-1) and senior Will Greer (11-7, 11-1, 11-2) all nabbed sweeps against their opponents. Nguyen recorded the first 18 points of his contest before cruising to victory while Dukarm picked up the fifth point for Haverford to clinch the match.

At the No. 1 ladder spot, junior Nathan Vestrich-Shade finished the scoring for the Fords with a four-game win (11-5, 11-7, 10-12, 11-2) over Henry Ortmeyer at the No. 1 position. Freshman Alex Liu dropped just one point in an exhibition victory.

Head coach Niki Clement's squad will travel to Navy next Saturday (Nov. 7) for a tripleheader. The Fords take on Fordham at 2:30 p.m., Navy at 4:30 p.m. and Richmond at 7 p.m. The women's squash team gets its season underway at Navy next Saturday as well against Fordham (2:00 p.m.) and Johns Hopkins (4:30 p.m.).
