ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Haverford College men's squash team went 2-1, defeating the Fordham Rams, 5-4 and the Richmond Spiders, 7-2, but lost to the United States Naval Academy, 9-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Haverford battled Fordham in the first match of the day. Sophomore Zach Cole swept Sahil Bahri (11-7, 11-4, 11-8) and senior Alex Egilman won three straight (11-8, 12-10, 11-7) over Jimmy Van Potts to give Haverford a 2-0 lead.

The Rams tied the match at two-all as Jeremy Keller nabbed a 3-1 win (11-6, 8-11, 11-4, 11-8) over senior Laurenson Ward and Matt Crowe took down senior Will Greer, 3-1 (11-2, 11-6, 8-11, 14-12). Senior Jonathan Nguyen put Haverford in front, 3-2, as he took the final three games to win, 3-1 (9-11, 11-8, 11-2, 11-9). Fordham again tied the match at three when Peter Yuen won, 3-0 (11-6, 11-8, 11-9) over sophomore Peter Dudley.

Freshman Yash Singh had a crucial point for the Fords as he swept John Lennon, dropping just eight points (11-4, 11-1, 11-3). With four victories, the Fords clinched the match as the Rams defaulted at the No. 9 position.

In the second match of the day, the Fords lost 9-0 to the host school, Navy, but rebounded with a 7-2 win over Richmond to wrap up play for the evening.

Freshman Ryan Dukarm scored the first win for Haverford over Richmond in a sweep (11-6, 11-8, 11-6) over Michael Beck at the No. 9 position. After the Spiders nodded the match at one victory each, Dudley (11-9, 11-6, 11-5) and Cole (11-8, 11-2, 11-9) swept their opponents to give the Fords a 3-1 lead. Tied at one, Singh won by identical 11-6 scores to win, 3-1 and give Haverford a 4-1 advantage.

Senior Nathan Vestrich-Shade took all three games against George Stemlicht (11-1, 11-5, 11-4) to give Haverford its fifth conquest and clinch the match. Nguyen took a four-game coup as well.

Just like last year, the men's squash team stands at 3-1 overall after its first four games of the season. Both Haverford squash teams welcome Dickinson (10:30 a.m.) and Vassar (3:30 p.m.) to the GIAC Squash Courts next Saturday.
