Men's Squash Finishes at Pioneer Valley Invite

NORTHHAMPTON, Mass. – The Haverford College men's squash team wrapped up the Pioneer Valley Invitational on Saturday on the campus of Smith College. The Hobart Statesmen defeated the Fords, 9-0 while the MIT Engineers took home an 8-1 victory.

Hobart 9, Haverford 0

Sophomore Peter Dudley extend his match to a fourth game with an 11-8 triumph in game three. Despite the sophomore's best effort for a comeback, Hobart's Beau Orchard was victorious, 11-9 in the final stanza.

At the No. 1 position, senior Nathan Vestrich-Shade was beaten in a tough three-game match. After losing the first two games by a combined five points, the senior lost a heartbreaker, 12-10 in game three.

MIT 8, Haverford 1

After splitting the first two games that were separated by four points, Dudley took a 2-1 advantage with an 11-6 conquest in game three. Following an 11-6 loss in game four, Dudley closed the match with an 11-8 success in the deciding frame.

Freshman Alex Liu found himself down, 2-0, but rallied with two closely-contested wins (13-11, 11-8). His veracious revival stalled in game five as he dropped a tough 11-9 competition. Vestrich-Shade picked up a game over his opponent, but was undone in the last two games by a total of four points, losing in four. Senior Alex Egilman got on the board after two 12-10 defeats, but fell in game four, 11-6.

Head coach Niki Clement's squad's record stands at 4-8 on the year. The Fords travel to Vassar next weekend (Jan. 23) to battle Connecticut College and Vassar. Haverford swept Vassar in November and lost a close 5-4 decision to Connecticut College on Friday
