Men's Squash Sweeps Doubleheader on Senior Day

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College Men's Squash team honored its seniors before defeating NYU and Georgetown in statement wins to close out the season Saturday at the GIAC Squash Courts. The senior class would come up clutch in both games for the Fords. Wins from senior co-captains Nathan Vestrich-Shade and Laurenson Ward clinched the team win in the first match, a 6-3 victory over NYU, and all four seniors finished their last regular season game with 3-0 wins in a 7-2 team victory over Georgetown.

The Fords mounted a big comeback against NYU after falling down 3-0 in the first round. Wins from Aaron Horwitz and Ryan Dukarm in the second round put Haverford back on the map, bringing the score to 3-2. Dukarm's win was vital to Haverford's success as he defeated his opponent 12-10 in the fifth game, swinging the momentum in favor of the hosts.

Underclassmen Zach Cole and Peter Dudley fed off the momentum, defeating their opponents in three games each to give the Fords their third and fourth wins of the match and putting them back on top of the scoreboard. Ward (No. 3) sealed the win for Haverford after four games and Vestrich-Shade (No. 1) gave the Fords a sixth point after a back-and-forth match.

Haverford continued its strong play in the second matchj, including five total 3-0 records in wins by Vestrich-Shade, Dudley, Ward, Horwitz, and Jonathan Nguyen. Vestrich-Shade clinched the match win for Haverford with game scores of 11-3, 11-5, and 11-2. From the No. 10 spot, senior Alex Egilman won 11-6, 12-10.

Men's squash's next opponent will be determined with the final team rankings and the official release of the CSA Team Championship Brackets. The team championship will be held this coming weekend at Yale starting on Friday, February 19 and will continue through Sunday, February 21 with one match for each team during each of the three days.
