Men's Squash Dispatches Washington at CSA Team Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 34-ranked Haverford College men's squash team defeated the No. 39 University of Washington Huskies 7-2 in its first match of the College Squash Association (CSA) Team Championships Chaffee Cup on Friday evening at MIT.

Haverford matched its individual wins record with the 13th victory of the season, a mark reached twice with the last occurrence in the 2004-05 season. Ryan Dukarm also matched the Haverford program record for individual wins with his 14th win of the season thus far.

After falling at the top two spots on the ladder, the Fords won at slots three through seven in order to take home the 7-2 win.

Senior Co-captain Aaron Horwitz delivered a sweep over Andrew Yepez (11-9, 11-9, 11-9) at the number three spot. Zach Cole also posted a sweep over Claudia Regio (11-6, 11-6, 11-8) at the number five spot while Yash Singh added his 13th win of the season over Malcom Daigle (11-4, 11-2, 11-6) at the six spot.

At the seventh position, Dukarm dispatched Arisha Jahan in three games (11-7, 17-15,11-9) as the second of three took several extra points to decide. Keshav Kalani also posted a sweep over Aman Bawa at the ninth spot (11-8,11-4, 11-7) on the ladder.

Alex Liu posted a four game victory at the fourth spot, besting Nicholas Ting after dropping the first game 9-11. Liu stormed back to win 12-10, 11-3, 11-6. Shilin Jog also needed four games to take care of Steven Shi at the eighth spot on the ladder, dropping the first game 9-11 before rattling off 11-9, 11-6 and 11-3 games to seal the win over his opponent.

With the opening round triumph, Head Coach Niki Clement's team has again reached the semifinals of the Chaffee Cup and will face No. 35 Boston College on Saturday at 4:45 p.m. at MIT's Zesiger Center Squash Courts.

Last weekend, the Fords swept past the Eagles by a tally of 9-0 at the GIAC Squash Courts. The Harvard-hosted team championships continue through Sunday afternoon.
