Men's Squash Wraps Up 2018 With Wins over Bard, Chatham

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The No. 28 ranked Haverford men's squash team posted a pair of victories on Saturday, besting No. 33 Bard by an 8-1 final before dispatching No. 45 Chatham by an 8-0 tally. Haverford is now 7-0 on the season, pulling to a perfect record at the GIAC Squash Courts to wrap up the 2018 portion of the season. The 7-0 start remains the best in program history for the Fords. With a pair of victories on Saturday, senior Yash Singh broke into the top three in program history in career wins with 41. Singh is now within five individual victories of the career record held by his former teammate, Peter Dudley '18.

Against the Raptors, Davis Chase swept past Rhys Nordstrom at the top flight (11-4, 11-4, 11-9) while Tate Miller was tested in a five-game victory over Theo Webb at the second flight (8-11, 11-2, 9-11, 11-5, 11-1), prevailing despite dropping the first game as Miller was able to wear his opponent down in the fifth and final game, surrendering just one point in the process. 

Up and down the ladder from that point, Haverford saw sweeping success as Fitz Dougherty made quick work of Artun Ak, surrendering just eight total points in his triumph at the third spot (11-3, 11-2, 11-3).

Keil Reedich allowed just five points to Alex Luscher at the fourth flight (11-1, 11-0, 11-2) and Singh just six to Noah Gichan at the fifth (11-6, 11-0, 11-0). Ryan Dukarm made quick work of JohnMichael Richards (11-3, 11-5, 11-2) at the sixth flight, and Alex Liu swept past Simon Nichoson (11-7, 11-3, 11-7) at the seventh spot on the ladder.

Aaron Witkin picked up a victory at the eighth spot after his opponent was forced to retire in the third game. Haverford was forced to default the ninth spot on the ladder because of illness.

The Fords are now 14-0 all-time against Bard, but the two programs had not met since the 2006 season prior to Saturday's showdown in Haverford.

The Fords made quick work of the upstart Cougars, with Reedich getting things going with a sweep of Harry Aung at the fourth flight. Reedich allowed just three total points in a dominating effort (11-1, 11-0, 11-2). Witkin then delivered at the eighth flight, prevailing over Mark Fobes while only giving up six total points (11-1, 11-4, 11-1)

The next match to finish featured Miller surrendering just two points to Zane Porterfield (11-0, 11-1, 11-1) at the second spot on the ladder, while senior co-captain Dukarm then dispatched Johnny Artinger at the sixth flight (11-1, 11-2, 11-4). The match was clinched by Liu, as the senior co-captain surrendered just five total points to Drew Brannan at the seventh flight (11-2, 11-2, 11-1).

Dougherty eclipsed Jeffrey Duclos at the third flight, surrendering just four total points (11-2, 11-2, 11-0), and Singh pulled Haverford to a 7-0 lead with a sweep of Arief Zulkifli at the fifth flight (11-1, 11-2, 11-5).

Chase was dealt a hefty challenge by Vinicius Muniz at the top flight, as his opponent took the first game 11-9, before Chase was able to respond with 11-7, 11-4, and 11-9 victories to secure the 8-0 sweep for the Fords. The ninth flight was not contested due to a double default.

The matchup was the first ever between Haverford and Chatham.

Haverford will next return to action in 2019 at the Pioneer Valley Invitational from January 18-20 as the Fords head to Western Massachusetts to face off with Stanford, Colby, Wesleyan, and Bard.
