Men's Squash Blanks Garnet to Open Season, 9-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford men's squash team (1-0) opened its 2019-20 season with a convincing 9-0 win over Swarthmore on Thursday evening at the GIAC Squash Courts. Haverford improves to 14-0 all-time against the Garnet in a series that dates back to the 1994 season. The Fords have now opened up their season with a victory for the sixth straight campaign. Swarthmore falls to 0-3 on the year after also dropping previous matchups with Johns Hopkins and Pitt last weekend. 

Junior co-captain Davis Chase surrendered just seven total points in a 11-3, 11-3, 11-1 sweep over Ford Johnstone at the top flight while junior co-captain Fitz Dougherty turned away Yichuan Yan in a 11-3, 11-9, 11-1 triumph at the second. Senior co-captain Tate Miller also got the best of Robert Gunn at the third flight in an 11-1, 11-3, 11-4 decision. Miller now owns 35 career victories at Haverford as he looks to take aim at the career record of 47 established a season ago by Yash Singh '19. 

First year Quinton Crawford started his collegiate career off on the right foot, surrendering just six total points in his sweep of Nathan Pitock at the fourth flight (11-2, 11-4, 11-0). Sophomore Keil Reedich also surrendered just six in his sweep of Eddie Wu at the fifth position (11-4, 11-1, 11-1), while another first year debutant, John Collins, allowed just three points in a sweep of Eddie Sutton at the sixth flight (11-2, 11-0, 11-1). 

Nathan Wang made his debut with an 11-7, 11-5, 11-3 sweep of Sannan Dhillon, while Khalil Walker also notched his first collegiate victory with an 11-4, 11-2, 11-0 sweep of Paris Shan. Sophomore Aaron Witkin allowed just three total points to Dawson Epstein at the ninth flight in an 11-2, 11-1, 11-0 victory. 

Head Coach Niki Clement's team next returns to action at the always highly anticipated Navy Round Robin on Saturday, November 9 in Annapolis, Md. Haverford takes on Fordham (12 p.m.) and the Host Midshipmen (5 p.m.) at the United States Naval Academy.
