HAVERFORD, Pa. - The No. 30 Haverford College men's squash team (3-3) dropped its match to No. 15 St. Lawrence (2-4) by an 8-1 final at the GIAC Squash Courts on Saturday evening. The meeting was the first between the two programs since 2004, and just the fourth overall.

Sophomore Aaron Witkin picked up a huge win for the Fords at the ninth flight, fending off a challenge from Daniel Rosas in a four-game triumph. Witkin dropped the second game after an 11-7 win in the first, and then rattled off consecutive 11-6 victories to give Haverford a point towards the overall match total.

In one of the most hotly contested matches of the entire slate, junior co-captain Fitz Dougherty and Enzo Corigliano captivated the sizeable audience on hand with a strong performance at the second flight. Corigliano took the first two games with relative ease, but Dougherty fought his way back, fending off a sweep with a 11-9 decision that fired up the Haverford contingent. Corigliano eventually prevailed in four, but Dougherty proved his mettle in a gauntlet of a matchup.

First year Nathan Wang impressed in his early match, going up 2-0 with 11-5 and 11-9 victories over Logan Thomas at number seven. Thomas stormed back to take the match in five, giving St. Lawrence a narrow victory at the seventh flight. First year John Collins fell at the sixth flight to James Barrow, while first year Quinton Crawford and sophomore Keil Reedich were also swept by Kareem Elrayes and Aran Thawani at the fourth and fifth positions.

First year Khalil Walker fell in four to Tyler Schmalz at the eighth flight, taking the second game off his opponent and maintaining composure throughout in a see-saw battle. Junior co-captain Davis Chase ran into a formidable opponent in the top flight, dropping a three-game decision to Karim Ibrahim. Senior co-captain Tate Miller was similarly defeated by a strong challenger in Belal Nawar at the third flight in what was the final match of the night to finish.

The Fords will now have the rest of the 2019 calendar year off from competition, as College Squash Association (CSA) action has concluded ahead of the winter holidays. The Fords return to play on Friday, January 17 at home against No. 28 Wesleyan. Action at the GIAC Squash Courts is slated for a 3 p.m. start.
