AMHERST, Mass. - The 30th-ranked Haverford Men's Squash team (5-5) was defeated in its final match at the Pioneer Valley Invitational by tournament host No. 22 Amherst (6-4), falling by a 9-0 final at the Davenport Squash Courts on Sunday.

Despite dropping the contest, Haverford saw strong performances up and down the ladder during the matinee. Davis Chase proved his mettle at the top flight, challenging Robinson Armour from the start in a captivating bout. Chase dropped the first game in extra points, and then swiftly took the second game by an 11-8 final, setting up a best-of-three. Armour was able to sneak by Chase, giving a tally to the Mammoths.

In the final match of the day to finish, Quinton Crawford was undaunted by an early 0-2 hole, taking a 12-10 third-game victory over Charlie Sutherby before the Amherst player was able to evade a fifth game at the third flight. Alden Weinberg was locked in a tense match with Mitchell Ford, winning the second game by an 11-9 final before dropping the third by the same 11-9 scoreline at the seventh flight. The fourth game went to Ford by an 11-7 final.

At the eighth flight, Nathan Wang shook off a tough first two games to take Arnav Parikh to extra points in a thrilling third game. Haverford was facing off with Amherst for just the second time in program history, as the previous meeting came at the 2013 edition of the Pioneer Valley Invitational.

Men's Squash now returns to competition next weekend, with a pair of home matches slated for the GIAC Squash Courts. The Fords will take on No. 41 Georgetown and No. 48 Vassar. Action is slated to begin at 10:30 a.m.
