No. 32 Haverford Downed by No. 25 Dickinson, 7-2

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Haverford College men's squash team (4-9) suffered a defeat on the road to Dickinson (6-8), falling 7-2 inside the Kline Squash Center on the campus of Dickinson College on Saturday afternoon.

The top three flights for Dickinson set the tone with sweeps, as Joe Smythe swept Noah Tunis (11-6, 11-7, 11-3), Omar Ali took down Aaryaman Jaising (11-4, 11-5, 11-3), and Kobe Fleming bested Kai Thomas Schinaman (11-9, 11-5, 11-7). 

In one of the more competitive individual matches of the match, Samuel Knipp gained the upper hand over Peter Lehv. Knipp started out with a one-game advantage by taking game one 11-6. Lehv answered right back, claiming the next two games 11-7 and 11-6. Knipp knotted the match at two games a piece after a substantial 11-1 win, setting the tone for the all-important game five. Game five saw a battle for the ages, but it was Knipp who claimed the match after winning the fifth and final game 14-12 

Flights five, six, and seven went Dickinson's way, as the Red Devils claimed three more points off of three more sweeps. Aidan Ray swept Benjamin Schiltz (11-5, 11-3, 11-3),  Cormac Sullivan was the victor over Qianzhi Zhao (11-7, 11-4, 11-3), and George Vollmer prevailed over Arvin Krishnan (11-3, 11-5, 11-7). 

At the bottom of the ladder, the Fords were able to salvage two key wins against Dickinson, as Francis Betkowski shook off a first game loss to grab three consecutive games over Bradley Hennessey (6-11, 11-6, 11-9, 11-9), and Garret Fantini won a four-game duel (2-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-6). 

In the lone exhibition match of the day, Matt Sullivan defeated Aidan Donnan (5-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-2)

Following the match with the Red Devils, the men's squash team will now make their debuts in the Liberty League Championships on Saturday, February 10, and Sunday, February 11, with start times still to be determined. The championships will be held inside Robie Squash Center in Canton, N.Y., and will be hosted by St. Lawrence.
