
HAVERFORD, Pa. - Francis Betkowski and Tarun Sargunar of Haverford College Men's squash each earned Liberty League awards this week, as Betkowski earned Performer of the Week and Sargunar collected Rookie of the Week.
Betkowski had a strong performance for the Fords on Saturday, picking up sweeps over No. 26 Connecticut College and No. 33 Vassar. Against the Camels, the Mercersburg, Pa. local dispelled Andrew Nemphos 11-5, 11-8, 11-6 in the eight flight, adding to a 5-4 upset victory for the Fords. In the second match of the day against the Brewers, the sophomore moved one spot up in the ladder, matching up against Daniel Smith in flight seven, winning in three straight games, 11-4, 11-5, 11-5, to help Haverford collect a commanding 8-1 win over Liberty League foe Vassar. For Betkowski, this is the sophomore's second-career Liberty League accolade, after earning a spot on the Liberty League Weekly Honor Roll back in November of 2023.
Sargunar picked up a pair of victories on Saturday in the number five flight against No. 26 Connecticut College and No. 33 Vassar. In a five-game matchup against Gordon Fairborn of the Camels, the Johns Creek, Ga. product earned a 3-2 (10-12, 11-3, 11-1, 8-11, 13-11) win, to fuel a Haverford upset over the Connecticut College player. In his second match of the day, the first-year picked up a quick 3-0 sweep, defeating Gabriel Lugo 3-0 (11-3, 11-3, 11-4), adding to a 8-1 victory over the host Brewers.
Haverford has now wrapped up the 2024 portion of the schedule, as Men's Squash will next be in action on January 17 at No. 27 Wesleyan (4 p.m.). Haverford then takes on No. 30 Denison (12:30 p.m.) and No. 26 Connecticut College (12:30 p.m.) in neutral site action to wrap up the weekend.
