Men's Track & Field Wins Three Events on Final Day of CC Championships, Fords Finish Second

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Haverford College men's outdoor track & field team finished second at the Centennial Conference Outdoor Championships, wrapping up a weekend of action on Sunday with three event titles and multiple scoring finishes. Those performances included the top four finishers in the 5,000 meters. The Fords finished the three-day meet with a total of 140 points, good for a second place finish. Johns Hopkins picked up the overall title. Haverford has never finished below second at the conference's outdoor meet.

Haverford swept the podium in the 5,000 meter run with Dylan Gearinger crossing the finish line first, completing the distance double in a time of 14:47.73 after also winning the 10,000 meters on Friday night. Henry Woods was second in 14:51.00 while Graham Peet was third in 14:53.55. Marcelo Jauregui-Volpe was fourth in 14:53.63. The Fords scored 29 points in that event alone. Ryan Herlihy (11th, 15:13.64) and James Stadler (14th, 15:23.29) narrowly missed scoring marks in the event. 

Greg Morgan captured the 1,500 meter run crown with a time of 4:00.55. Morgan finished second in the event a year ago and edged Eric Hermann of Dickinson for the title on Sunday. Woods was fifth in the event with a time of 4:02.76. James Barker narrowly missed scoring with a 10th place finish in 4:04.62. Liam Lynch won the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.08. The title is Lynch's first outdoor conference crown and his first 800 meter conference title. Previously, Lynch was a three-time indoor champion in the 400 meter dash. Chris Goings was also a scorer in the 800 meters for the Fords, crossing in sixth with a time of 1:56.67.

Zach Oji scored in both hurdles events, with a fifth place finish in the 110 meter hurdles (17.66 seconds) and a seventh place finish in the 400 meter hurdles (1:00.46). Andrew Lummus scored for the Fords in the triple jump with a mark of 12.27 meters, good for a seventh place finish. Rohan Shukla also picked up a point for Haverford with an eighth place jump of 12.15 meters, a career best mark for the junior.

In relay events, the 4x400 meter team narrowly missed capturing the event title with a second place finish in 3:24.65. Gene Perry, Tyler Fong, Scott Pollara, and Lynch scored eight points for Haverford. The 4x100 meter relay squad of Greg Van Aken, Gabe Pascal, Oscar Huang and Keiran Marrett-Hitch began the day for the Fords with an eighth place finish in 45.72 seconds. 

The Fords will now compete in a series of last chance meets in the lead up to selections for the NCAA Championships. The Fords will be in action on Monday, May 14 at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet before the Mideast Regional meet at Widener on Thursday, May 19.
