CHESTER, Pa. – On the final day of Danny Curran Invitational action, the Haverford College men's track & field team posted solid performances in a bevy of events, with a large grouping of 1,500-meter runners joining sprinters and jumpers to wrap up the two-day meet.
Senior Liam Lynch finished 10th overall in the 400 meter dash, crossing in 49.97, narrowly missing a personal best. Senior Oscar Huang was 39th in 52.63, a new outdoor personal-best time in the distance. Senior Zach Oji also competed for Haverford, crossing in a time of 56.23 in his first competitive foray into the event.
Senior Kofi Acheampong finished 25th overall in his 100 meter dash outdoor debut, posting a time of 11.63. Acheampong also was Haverford's top finisher in the 200 meter dash, crossing in 23.38. Huang finished 47th overall in a new career-best time of 23.70.
A large contingent of 1,500-meter runners was paced by junior Hiroshi Kawakatsu, who finished 15th overall with a time of 4:05.35, easily eclipsing his previous career best. First year Peter Buckley made his outdoor debut with a time of 4:10.38 for 28th place. Sophomore Simon Perales finished 32nd overall in 4:11.47 while seniors Chris Goings (34th, 4:11.64) and Ian Woodhouse (37th, 4:11.99) also crossed within the top 40 finishers.
First-years Max Brelig (4:12.41), Scott Kaiser (4:14.03), Ryan O'Donnell (4:18.46), and Jacob Gaba (4:31.00) joined sophomores Jack Hunter (4:20.95), Jacob Landsberg (4:23.11), and Oscar Melendez (4:33.54) as well as junior William Hillegas (4:29.26) in the 1,500 meter competition.
Senior Rohan Shukla was Haverford's top finisher in the long jump, posting a jump of 5.55 meters (18'-2.5"), while senior Chris Glazer was 47th with a jump of 5.24 meters (17'-9.5"), and junior Cameron Albrecht was 57th, recording a jump of 5.21 meters (17'-1.25"). Oji was 24th overall in the triple jump, recording a mark of 11.97 meters (39'-3.25") while Shukla was 25th (39'-2.25")
With the first week of action on the outdoor slate complete, Haverford now returns to action on Saturday, April 6 at the West Chester Invitational. Action is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
