Men's Track & Field Wraps Ursinus Festival with Busy Saturday

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Haverford College men's outdoor track & field team concluded action at the two-day Ursinus College Track & Field Festival on Saturday afternoon, taking the event crown in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to help highlight a busy day. 

Seamus Fraser took the 3,000-meter steeplechase crown in a personal best of 9:45.09, while Deven Abrams finished fourth in the event with a time of 11:03.65.

A sizable group competed in the 800-meter race, led by Matthew Denton, who finished third overall in 1:57.48. First-year Owen Bluman secured seventh place with a time of 2:01.31, while Micah Lachman achieved a top 10 finish with a time of 2:02.39. Reed Solomon rounded out the top 10 with a time of 2:02.83, followed by Sam Diaz in 13th place with a time of 2:05.62. Gopal Patel finished 28th overall with a time of 2:14.89.

Ravi Eaton led the 200-meter dash group for the Fords, finishing 20th overall with a time of 23.90. Jonah Hoffman-Weitsman finished 40th with a time of 25.58, while Matthew Ruiz achieved a personal best of 26.41. Kevin Villafane finished 46th with a time of 26.85, followed by Zhang in 52nd place with a time of 30.96.

In the 400 meters, Vir Goyal achieved a personal best time of 55.62, placing 11th overall, while Leo Gordon finished 24th with a time of 58.77. Villafane cleared 2.6 meters (8 feet, 6.25 inches) to secure 10th place in the pole vault, while Tiger Wang finished ninth in the javelin throw, clearing a distance of 39.18 meters (128 feet, 6 inches).

A number of athletes competed in the seeded preliminaries of the 100-meter race, with Jonathan Hill narrowly missing qualification for the final with a time of 11.76 in the sixth heat. Jason Mayo (20th, 11.97) and Nathan Ma (35th, 12.61) also competed in the sixth heat, while Hoffmann-Weitsman achieved a personal best in heat two, finishing 29th overall with a time of 12.31.

Zenas Boamah finished 32nd overall with a time of 12.40 in the third heat, while Matthew Ruiz (37th, 12.82) and Boahen Kwakye (38th, 13.11) competed in the first and second heats respectively. Hongyi Zhang finished 16th in the unseeded 100 meters with a time of 14.90.

Next for the Fords is a trip to Princeton, N.J., with select men's track and field entrants participating in the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University on Friday (5 p.m.). Haverford will then compete in the West Chester Bill Butler Invitational next Saturday (10 a.m.).
