Women's soccer controls Washington in win

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The Haverford College women's soccer team dominated host Washington (Md.) College, 4-0, Wednesday night in a Centennial Conference match-up.

Haverford (10-2-2, 5-2-0 CC) registered 20 shots in the contest while limiting Washington (5-8-1, 1-6-0 CC) to just one and that lone attempt didn't occur until the 75th minute.

All the scoring for the Fords came from two players who alternated goals in the victory.

Katie Van Aken opened the scoring in the game's 10th minute pushing a shot into the left corner off a long pass from teammate Hannah Davis. Late in the first half Elizabeth Levitan put Haverford ahead by two with her first goal of the season, coming off an assist from Sarah Andrade.

In the 60th, Anna Rayne set up for a corner kick opportunity and launched it towards the front of the net where Van Aken skied for the header that pushed the score to 3-0. Levitan added her second of the night in the closing moments of the game.

Of Haverford's 20 shots, 12 made it on frame. Washington starting goalie Tori Ripple made eight saves while allowing three goals and was eventually relieved by teammate Caroline Grier who allowed Levitan's second goal while failing to register a save.

In contrast, the Fords' Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds saw little action, requiring only the one late save to preserve the shutout, her eighth of the season. Herrick-Reynolds' goals against average dropped even lower after the win to a paltry 0.83 goals per game.

The Fords will entertain Dickinson College in their next outing, a 3 p.m. conference match-up Saturday afternoon at Walton Field.
