Women's soccer topples the Titans

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford women's soccer team rallied from an early one goal deficit with three first half scores en route to their 3-2 win over the visiting Titans from the University of Wis.-Oshkosh on Sunday afternoon at Walton Field.

Oshkosh (1-2-0) posted the first tally on the scoreboard with Carmen Fiordellisi's goal in the fourth minute of the opening stanza. It was the Titan's first goal of the Kickoff Classic after losing 2-0 on Saturday to Wilkes (Pa.).

Haverford (2-0-1), who also failed to find the back of the net on Saturday in their 0-0 double-overtime tie with Arcadia, rallied back against the Titans with three goals, two from players scoring their first marks of the season.

Katie Van Aken beat Oshkosh goalie Brittany Walder in the 17th minute for her initial goal of the year and then late in the half Erin Dowling and Katie Bigay -- whose first collegiate goal proved to be the game-winner -- added scores to enable the Fords to take a 3-1 lead into the intermission.

Haverford had the better of play in the early going of the second frame but Jessica Erny pulled the Titans to within one with her first goal of the season in the 71st minute, but that's where the scoring ended on the day allowing the Fords to take the 3-2 win.

Haverford's Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds earned the win in goal making a pair of saves while Walder took the loss for Oshkosh despite making five saves.

In the Kickoff Classic finale, Arcadia rallied with a pair of second-half goals to defeat Wilkes, 2-1.

On the road for their next game, a Sept. 12 date at Vassar, the Fords don't return home to Walton until a Sept. 16, 4 p.m. match-up against Moravian.
