Women’s soccer ties Moravian, 2-2

HAVERFORD, Pa. – By the numbers, Wednesday's game between the Haverford College women's soccer team and Moravian College was evenly matched. The final score was evidence of that as they played to a 2-2 tie on a soggy Walton Field.

Haverford (3-0-2) attempted one more shot (18-17), one more corner kick (4-3) and had two more shots on goal (9-7) than the Greyhounds. The Fords scored first in each half and Moravian (2-3-1) answered back both times.

The Fords received assistance from Moravian on both its goals. In the 13th minute, Erin Dowling dribbled towards the goal and when keeper Sarah Halpin challenged Dowling, she passed to her left, but a Greyhound defender stepped in the way and tried to clear the ball but put it into the goal.

Ten minutes later Moravian got on the board as Emily Rodriguez fed Shannon McEvoy at the 18 yard line. Haverford goalkeeper Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds stepped out to make a play, but slipped as McEvoy moved by her to boot home the goal. Michele Buonora and Allie Chen had good looks before the end of the half that they could not put in.

Haverford again received help on its second goal in the 60th minute. Anna Rayne chipped in a free kick from 30 yards out that appeared to be an easy save for Halpin, but a slick ball bounced off her hands and over the goal line. Just like the first half, the Greyhounds tied the score nearly 10 minutes later. A free kick by Kim Gogel ricocheted off Eileen Black and past Herrick-Reynolds to tie the score.

Neither team could muster up a goal in the final 21 minutes to send the game into overtime. Moravian took the only shot in the first extra frame and outshot HC, 3-1, in the second. Black's header sailed high and the ensuing Moravian corner kick bounced out of bounds as the final buzzer sounded.

Herrick-Reynolds stopped five shots in goal for Haverford and Halpin recorded seven saves for the Greyhounds.

The Fords will remain home again on Saturday, hosting Immaculata University at noon.
