Haverford takes Lebanon Valley in wild finish

ANNVILLE, Pa. – A corner kick opportunity with time winding down resulted in the Haverford College women's soccer team stealing a 1-0 non-conference victory on Tuesday afternoon at Lebanon Valley College.

The Fords (5-0-2) set up Anna Rayne in the corner and with 10 seconds left in regulation time the midfielder lofted the ball into the crease where teammate Michele Buonora was able to gather it for a shot which banked off the crossbar. A Lebanon Valley player headed the rebound but into her own net for the only goal of the game sending the Dutchmen (4-3-1) to their first home loss of the season.

Haverford's back line of Maura Schiefer, Kara McMahon, Erin Verrier and Kristin Sockett were able to hold the potent Dutchmen attack to barely a whisper. Heading into the game Lebanon Valley was averaging 2.57 goals and nearly 18 shots per game. The Fords defenders limited the home team to just shot four shots all game without one making it on frame making life easier for Haverford goalie Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds who has already registered three shutouts in the season's first seven games.

The offensive opportunities were more numerous for the Fords in the contest as they totaled 12 shots and three on goal before the near-miss by Buonora. Haverford also edged the Dutchmen in corner kick chances by a 7-1 margin.

Next up for the unbeaten Fords is a Centennial Conference match-up on Saturday, September 26, at Gettysburg College.
