Van Aken’s goal downs Dips, 1-0

LANCASTER, Pa. – Kate Van Aken's early goal stood as the game-winner as the Haverford College women's soccer team defeated Franklin & Marshall College 1-0 in Centennial Conference action Saturday at a rainy Tylus Field.

Van Aken's goal came in the 12th minute when she headed an Anna Rayne free kick over the outstretched arms of F&M (3-12, 1-6 CC) keeper Katie Golding. Both defenses stood tall the remainder of game. The wet conditions may have factored into the lack of offense from both sides. Haverford (9-2-2, 4-2 CC) attempted just six shots and two on goal the remainder of the game.

The Diplomats matched Haverford in shots and corners, with each team firing off seven shots and earning five corners.

The Fords Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds improved to 9-2-2, picking up two saves. Golding took the loss, stopping two shots and falling to 3-10.

The Scarlet and Black remain on the road for their next contest when they travel to Chestertown, Md. to take on Washington College Wednesday at 7 p.m.
