Overtime tally sends women's soccer to defeat at Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Anna Rayne's goal gave the Haverford College women's soccer team a lead early in the second half but host Muhlenberg College netted a late goal in regulation time, then capped the comeback with a quick score in overtime to take a 2-1 Centennial Conference match-up Tuesday night.

Rayne scored from 30 yards out on a free kick in the second half's first minute putting Haverford (5-3, 2-1 CC) ahead breaking a scoreless halftime tie with the Mules (2-4-2, 2-0 CC).

With a little more than 11 minutes remaining in the game, though, Meghan O'Grady scored the equalizer from 10 yards out for the hosts.

O'Grady got off a shot with the final buzzer but it sailed wide left sending the Fords into an overtime period for the second straight outing.

Extra time began with a shot from O'Grady that hit the post just 39 seconds in. She was able to gather the rebound and put a shot into the back left corner for the game-winner handing the Fords their first conference loss of the season.

The Mules owned a narrow 13-12 edge in total shots but each team registered only five shots on goal in the contest.

Haverford goalkeeper Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds finished with three saves while her Muhlenberg counterpart, Michele Toher, ended the night with four saves in the Mules' win.

The 15 fouls called on Haverford — 12 in the second half alone, all after Rayne's go-ahead marker — were the most since the Fords were whistled for 18 at Vassar last year in a 2-1 road victory on September 12. Muhlenberg finished Tuesday's game with six fouls.

The Fords will try to get back on the winning track Friday night with a trip to Baltimore, Md., where they'll square off against 6th-ranked Johns Hopkins University in another league battle.
