Boyer's two goals help push Fords to victory over host Bears

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Freshman Meg Boyer scored twice to help the Haverford College women's soccer team to a, 4-2, Centennial Conference victory over host Ursinus College Wednesday afternoon.

Boyer's marker with just 19 seconds remaining in the opening half was her second goal of the game and gave Haverford (6-4, 3-2 CC) a 3-0 advantage over Ursinus (5-5, 2-3 CC) heading into the intermission.

The Bears cut into the lead with an early second-half score but Katie Bigay's first goal of the season restored Haverford's three-goal cushion in the 84th minute. Ursinus added a final score in the game's last minute.

Michele Buonora gave the Fords a quick lead 128 seconds into the contest. Boyer's two unassisted scores came in the final five minutes of the half, her initial goal finding the right corner of the Bears' goal and the second tally sailing inside the left post and wide of Ursinus goalie Kara DiJoseph.

Bigay's goal came off a corner kick opportunity from Anna Rayne.

The Fords were actually out shot in the contest as Ursinus finished with a 16-15 edge in shots and a 12-7 advantage in shots on goal.

Haverford net minder Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds provided the heroics as the last line of defense, stopping four shots in the opening half and registering six more saves over the final 45 minutes. DiJoseph finished with three saves for the Bears in the loss.

Wednesday's win over Ursinus improves Haverford's record against the Bears to 11-1-3 since the two began facing off as Centennial opponents in 1996. The Fords have now won the past three outings.

Next up for Haverford is a Saturday visit by the University of Mary Washington in a non-conference tilt scheduled for 1 p.m. at Walton Field.
