Overtime goal sends women's soccer to defeat at Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. – A Dickinson College goal early in overtime sent the visiting Haverford College women's soccer team to a 2-1 Centennial Conference loss Saturday afternoon against the league-leading Red Devils.

After having been held without a shot on goal in the opening half, Meg Boyer's fifth goal of the year put Haverford (10-5, 5-3 CC) ahead, 1-0, a little more than three minutes after the intermission.

The Red Devils (13-2-1, 8-1-0 CC) rallied to tie the score with a goal in the 63rd minute by Samantha Friday, but neither team could find the back of the net in the remainder of regulation time, sending the contest into overtime.

Dickinson's Genevieve Olson pounced on a loose ball inside the 18 and poked home the winning goal just 89 seconds into the extra session close to out the win for the host Red Devils, though.

Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds registered seven saves in goal for Haverford during the loss while Dickinson's Annie Weichert collected one save on the two shots she faced in the win.

The Fords will try to get back in the chase for a spot in the postseason conference tournament in their final two games, a Tuesday evening contest at Swarthmore followed by the 1 p.m. season finale next Saturday against visiting McDaniel at Walton Field.
