Boyer’s early goal gives women’s soccer 1-0 win over Dips

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Meg Boyer's goal in the sixth minute led the Haverford College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over visiting Franklin & Marshall College Saturday afternoon at Walton Field.

The Fords held possession for the majority of the contest, as evidenced by a commanding 22-3 shot advantage and a 10-1 differential in corners kicks. Haverford (9-4, 4-2 CC) had nine shots on goal, but needed just one to make the difference.

A loose ball in the box bounced off Franklin & Marshall (7-6, 3-5 CC) keeper Hannah Barry and Boyer before crossing the goal line.

The Fords had a number of opportunities, but thanks to Barry's four saves the rest of the half HC was not able to pad its lead. In the 63rd minute Haverford seemed to have an insurance goal, but Elizabeth Newman's header off a corner was blocked by a Diplomats defender.

Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds needed to make just two saves on the day to record her sixth shutout of the season and 16th of her career. Barry finished the game with eight saves for F&M.

Saturday's victory is Haverford's eight consecutive over the Diplomats and the third straight shut out. During the eight-game win streak the Fords have surrendered just five goals to F&M.

Haverford will be home again Wednesday when they host Washington College. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
