Shut out streak reaches three for women's soccer in win over E'town

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The unscored upon streak continued for the Haverford College women's soccer team as the Fords recorded their third consecutive shut out with a 4-0 victory over Elizabethtown College Saturday afternoon at sunny Walton Field.

It's been nearly 300 minutes since the Fords have surrendered a goal (a first half tally in the season's second game). During that same time span Haverford (4-1) has scored 12 goals.

Elizabethtown (2-3-1) did manage to get off a few shots, three, on goal which was three more than the Fords' last two opponents -- combined.

The game-winner Saturday came off the foot of Katie Van Aken who took a quick little flick from teammate Meg Boyer at the top of the box and buried a shot into the low, left corner in the 21st minute. Van Aken's second goal of the season was all the Fords would need but with nearly 70 minutes remaining and with the relentlessness of the offensive attack, it wouldn't be the end of the scoring in the Haverford victory.

Sophie Eiger picked up her third of the season five minutes into the second half then 15 minutes later Van Aken added another, both goals coming off assists from Michele Buonora.

Sarah Andrade completed the scoring with a hammer shot from the 18 off a corner kick opportunity with a little more than two minutes remaining.

Goalie Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds was forced to make one save in the opening 45 minutes and then two more in the final 45 for her first saves in more than two games. The Haverford senior has 12 shutouts in her career and owns a 0.77 goals against average which is the lowest mark in program history.

Haverford dominated possession against Elizabethtown firing off 23 shots Saturday and registering nine corner kick chances. The Blue Jays totaled four shots and failed to achieve a corner chance.

Over the past three games the Fords have averaged 28 shots. For the season Haverford has put 51 shots on goal while allowing just 11 on Herrick-Reynolds.

Lebanon Valley visits the Fords for their next outing, a non-conference match-up set for Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 4 p.m.
