Women's soccer upsets #10 Eastern Connecticut

PURCHASE, N.Y. - Meg Boyer registered the game-winning goal in the 49th minute Saturday afternoon helping the Haverford College women's soccer team pull of a 2-1 upset of 10th-ranked Eastern Connecticut State University in non-conference action at the Manhattanville (Coll.) Tournament.

Boyer, with possession, spun around a defender then arched a shot over leaping Eastern goalkeeper Mackenzie MacLeod to push the Fords (2-0-1) ahead of the Warriors (2-1) for good at the 48:22 mark early in the second half.

Haverford opened the scoring with Hannah Davis' unassisted goal in the 35th minute. Davis tipped in a soft shot after a Haverford free kick deflected off an ECSU defender deep in the box.

The Fords dominated possession accumulating 15 shots, 12 of which were on goal, while limiting the Warriors to only four. Eastern's only goal came off a Haverford player who misdirected a header, off a Warrior cross, into the Fords' own goal less than a minute after Davis' score.

Robin Chernow finished with three saves between the pipes to earn the win for Haverford. Macleod registered 10 saves in defeat for ECSU.

The Fords continue their weekend in Purchase with a Sunday match-up against the host Valiants at Noon.
