Fords complete weekend sweep with win over Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Haverford College women's soccer team capped off its weekend at the Manhattanville (College) Tournament with a 2-0 non-conference victory Sunday afternoon over the host Valliants, using goals from Larisa Antonisse and Allie Chen to earn the win.

Manhattanville (0-5) registered the initial shot of the game -- wide of the goal -- at the 1:15 mark in the opening half but Haverford (3-0-1) held the hosts without a shot for the remainder of the game while accumulating 19, 11 of which were on frame.

Antonisse's first collegiate goal proved to be the game-winner. In the 27th minute Katie Van Aken pushed a pass from the endline to Connie Friedman who immediately crossed a pass to the back post for an easy Antonisse tap in.

Twelve minutes later Van Aken had possession along the right endline and served up Chen, who had drifted to the top of the six-yard box, for the game's final goal.

Haverford goalkeeper Robin Chernow picked up the win with an easy day between the pipes while Manhattanville goalie Bridget Miranda took the loss after making nine saves.

Sunday's victory closes out a 2-0 weekend for the Fords who defeated No. 10 Eastern Conn. State University, 2-1, Saturday afternoon.

The Fords will travel to Carlisle, Pa., for their next contest, a Saturday afternoon Centennial Conference game against Dickinson College.
