Women’s soccer extends unbeaten streak to six with 1-1 tie at Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six games after earning a 1-1 double-overtime draw against Centennial Conference opponent Muhlenberg College Wednesday night.

Haverford, 24th in the D3soccer.com poll, is now 4-0-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the conference after the deadlock. Muhlenberg goes to 4-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 against the Centennial.

The Fords struck first when forward Meg Boyer scored in the 19th minute. The goal, Boyer's second of the season, came on a shot from the 18-yard box. Forward Katie Van Aken earned an assist on the play.

Leah Messler leveled the game for the Mules with an unassisted goal in the 53rd minute. Her goal, like Boyer's, came from around the 18. It was her first of the season.

The Fords controlled the majority of the play in the overtimes by taking all six shots (three in each overtime session); however, they couldn't break the tie.

Haverford keeper Robin Chernow made four saves. Muhlenberg's Michele Toher recorded eight stops, including two in the second overtime period. The Fords owned an 18-12 shot advantage.

Haverford goes out-of-conference for its next match, a road contest at Elizabethtown College Saturday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m.
