Fords, LebVall play to 1-1 draw in women's soccer

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Katie Van Aken scored an early goal to put Haverford College's women's soccer team ahead of host Lebanon Valley College in Wednesday afternoon's non-conference match-up, but the Dutchmen women converted a first-half penalty kick opportunity to pull even at 1-1 and that was how the game ended after playing through two overtime periods at Herbert Field.

Haverford (5-0-3) owned a 9-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities for the contest but Lebanon Valley (6-3-2) outshot the Fords 18-13.

Van Aken's goal, her third of the year, came at the 7:15 mark off a feed from Allie Chen. The Dutchmen were granted a penalty kick opportunity in the 19th minute, though, and Heather Tran was able to covert the chance to tie things at one goal apiece.

The Fords put the pressure on their hosts during the first 10-minute overtime period logging three shots on goal but LVC's goalkeeper, Sami Young, came up with stops each time then added another in the second overtime stanza. Haverford goalie Robin Chernow registered a save in the second overtime and finished, as Young did, with nine saves in the game.

The Fords, 1-0-1 in conference play, jump back into Centennial Conference action for their next three games beginning with Saturday's 1 p.m. visit by league-leader Gettysburg College (5-2, 3-0 CC).
