Fords, Bears battle to a scoreless tie

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team had to settle for a 0-0 double-overtime tie with visiting Centennial Conference foe Ursinus College Wednesday afternoon at Walton Field.

Neither Haverford (6-0-4, 2-0-2 CC) nor Ursinus (4-6-1, 2-3-1) were able to register a shot on goal during the opening 45 minutes of action. The Fords did get off five shots but none made it on frame. The Bears were held without a shot in the first half.

Second-half play was more lively than the first with each keeper getting some work in. Haverford's Robin Chernow made one save and got some defensive help with a team save in the 85th minute, while Kara DiJoseph was forced to make three saves for the Bears.

Chernow came up with another save early in the first overtime, followed at the other end by three Haverford shots which were blocked by Ursinus defenders to push the game into a second extra period.

Again in the second overtime, the Fords were the offensive aggressor getting off three more shots but each was off the mark leaving the game knotted at zeroes when the final horn sounded.

Haverford pounded out a 20-7 edge in shots and owned an 8-5 advantage in corner kick chances for the game.

The Fords will continue play within the conference in their next outing, an away match-up with host Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., on Sunday at 5 p.m.
