Boyer nets game-winner in 2OT win over Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass. - Meg Boyer's goal in the opening minutes of the second overtime sent the Haverford College women's soccer team to a 2-1 non-conference victory over Babson College Sunday afternoon on the second day of the Wellesley Invitational. The tally was Boyer's second of the season.

The Fords (3-1) went right to work in the second overtime as Boyer intercepted an attempted clear just over a minute into play and sent a blast from 25 yards out that went over Beavers' goalie Melina Kapotsis to the back post.

The two squads combined for seven shots in the first extra session with the Beavers (1-3-1) registering four. Kapotsis and Haverford's Robin Chernow each tallied one save to keep the score knotted at one.

Sophie Eiger's header off a cross from the right wing in the eighth minute of the contest had given the Fords the early 1-0 lead. Boyer and Allie Chen earned assists on the tally.

Babson responded 15 minutes before intermission as Meghan Andrew converted a loose ball off a redirected free kick to forge the 1-1 tie the teams took into the break.

Turning up the heat on offense late in the game, Haverford registered eight of the last 10 shots in regulation time but could not solve Kapotsis.

The Fords finished the game with a 24-15 advantage in shots.

Chernow (3-1) made four saves to earn her third win of the season while Kapotsis (1-1-0) took the loss.

Beginning the Centennial Conference portion of their schedule with its next outing, the Fords welcome Dickinson College to Walton Field on Sept. 15 at 1 p.m.
