Haverford's 5-game winning streak snapped by Bullets

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The 25th-ranked Haverford College women's soccer team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 loss to host Gettysburg College in Centennial Conference action.

The Fords (7-2, 2-1 CC) controlled the play early as they registered six of the first eight shots of the contest. The squad's persistence paid off when junior Meg Boyer opened the scoring in the 28th minute with her sixth of the season. Gathering the rebound from a Sarah Hoffman corner, Boyer put it low and to the right past Bullets goalie Eliza Gray.

Gettysburg's Ashley Miller answered back with her first of the year three minutes later to knot the score at 1-1. Haverford responded with the final two shots of the half but Gray stood tall to preserve the tie at intermission.

The beginning of the second half went the Bullets' way as Meg Castranova delivered a corner kick into the top left corner of the goal at the 49:52 mark to give Gettsyburg (7-2, 3-1)  the 2-1 lead.

Phoebe Miller, Connie Friedman and Mariah Baker each came close to rallying the Fords but Gray closed out the contest with several tough saves.

Falling for the first time in conference play this season, Haverford finished with a slight edge on shots (12-11) but was limited to just four in the second half.

Robin Chernow (7-2) made five saves in a losing effort while Gray (7-1) also accumulated five for the Bullets.

The Fords look to bounce right back on Wednesday at Ursinus College. The Centennial contest begins at 7:30 p.m.
