Friedman pushes Fords to win at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A pair of first-half goals from Connie Friedman helped lead the Haverford College women's soccer team past host Moravian College in a 4-0 non-conference shutout of the Greyhounds on Wednesday afternoon.

Friedman's second and third goals of the year staked Haverford (9-2-1) to a 2-0 halftime lead over Moravian (6-6-1). Late second-half goals by Isabella Bertagna, her first collegiate goal, and Mariah Baker, her first of the year, provided the Fords with their final four-goal margin of victory.

Moravian generated three early shots on goal forcing Haverford goalie Robin Chernow into action as she registered three of her eight saves in the game's first 14 minutes. However, Friedman opened the scoring and turned the momentum in the Fords' direction with a breakaway goal in the 27th minute.

The score moved to 2-0 in the 33rd with Friedman's goal off an assist from Jo Haller, but the opening tally was all the scoring the Fords would need during a game in which visiting Haverford out shot the Greyhounds by an 18-12 margin and posted four goals on the scoreboard for the first time this season.

Chernow earned the win for the Fords with her eight saves while Moravian's Genevieve Chaleff took the loss in goal surrendering all four goals while coming up with seven saves. The shutout was Chernow's fifth of the season.

Wednesday's game marked the last of the season's non-conference matchups for the Fords as they move into Centennial Conference action for the final five games of the regular season beginning with Saturday's trip to Baltimore, Md., where Haverford will square off against 17th-ranked Johns Hopkins University.
