LANCASTER, Pa. – Haverford College's Meg Boyer and Robin Chernow have been named the Centennial Conference's offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, by the league office Monday afternoon. The pair helped lead the Fords to their first conference tournament title with a 2-1 defeat of No. 24 Johns Hopkins University on Sunday afternoon in the championship of the conference tournament.

Boyer (pictured, on left), the Fords' leading goal-scorer, notched her biggest goal of the year in Sunday's championship game, chipping a 30-yard shot into the top, right corner of the goal late in second-half action to propel Haverford to the title. The junior forward's 79th-minute go-ahead goal broke a 1-1 deadlock with the top-seeded Blue Jays and eventually led to the win on Hopkins' home field.

Chernow (pictured, on right) spurred a defensive effort over the weekend that pushed the Fords to their championship. The sophomore goalkeeper pitched a shutout in the semifinals, coming up with five saves in a 1-0 victory over Gettysburg College on Saturday in Baltimore, and then in the final against Hopkins Chernow tied her season-best effort with eight saves in denying the Blue Jays their eighth straight tournament crown.

Sunday's conference-winning victory provided the Fords with the Centennial's automatic bid into the NCAA 2012 Division III women's soccer championship. Haverford, on Monday afternoon, was announced as host to first- and second-round games for the national tournament.

The Fords will host the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at Walton Field in one first-round game on Saturday, Nov. 10 with The College of New Jersey playing The City College of New York in the other opening-round match-up. The first round winners meet on Sunday, Nov. 11 at Walton in the second-round game.
