LANCASTER, Pa. – The Centennial Conference on Tuesday morning released its all-conference women's soccer team and three players from Centennial-champion Haverford College have earned honors as Meg Boyer and Allie Chen were voted first-team selections while Elizabeth Newman was named to the second team.
All three are making their second appearances on the all-conference team, voted upon by the league's coaches, as Newman (pictured, on right) was a first-teamer in 2011 and both Boyer (pictured, on left) and Chen (pictured, middle) were honorable mention selections last season.
Boyer, a junior forward who struck the game-winning goal in the Fords' conference tournament title game against top-seeded Johns Hopkins University, led the 2012 Haverford squad in goals and points with 11 and 26, respectively. She also added four assists during the season. Her 11 goals was a single-season career best and Boyer's five game-winning goals led the Fords as well as the conference. The Michigan native's goals and points totals were second-best within the league's leaders.
Chen led Haverford with six assists, a total that was second-most in the league. Her 16 points from five goals and six assists trailed only Boyer on Haverord's scoring list while tying for fifth-most on the conference list. A senior midfielder from California, Chen struck four game-winners during the year which was second to Boyer on the team and in the league.
Newman, from Massachusetts, helped spearhead a defense that surrendered only 17 goals all season and allowed a goals-against average of just 0.85 per game. Haverford recorded nine shutouts over the 2012 schedule, only one shy of tying the league's shutout leaders. A junior, Newman also added to Haverford's offense contributing a pair of goals along with two assists. Her lone game-winning goal came in the final three minutes of an eventual 2-1 victory over visiting Elizabethtown College on September 22.
All three started every game (19) in 2012 for Haverford which continues it's season by hosting first- and second-round games of the NCAA 2012 Division III Women's Soccer Championship.
Forward Hannah Kronick from Hopkins, the Centennial player of the year, and Boyer were the only unanimous selections by the coaches. Gettysburg College's freshman goalie Eliza Gray was voted the league's rookie of the year, and Leo Weil of Hopkins was announced as the coach of the year.
