Academic all-area women's soccer team tabs two from Haverford

PHILADELPHIA – Senior midfielder Allie Chen and junior forward Meg Boyer of Haverford College's Centennial Conference championship team have been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer/Philly-SIDA 2012 Academic All-Area Women's Soccer Team. The 11-player all-area team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 institutions from within the Philadelphia metropolitan area which compose the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA).

The Haverford pair have become inseparable in the awards season, garnering region and conference honors together following the Fords' championship season which culminated with a first-round tie in the NCAA tournament.

Both have earned inclusion on the conference's academic honor roll twice (20112, 2012) and were also named first-team all-Centennial selections in November. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) named Boyer a first-team all-Mid-Atlantic region player and tabbed Chen for third-team all-region honors.

Boyer struck the game-winning goal in the Fords' conference tournament title game against top-seeded Johns Hopkins University, and led the 2012 Haverford squad in goals and points with 11 and 26, respectively. Her goals total was a single-season career best and she led the Fords and conference in 2012 with five game-winning goals. The Michigan native's goals and points totals were second-best within the league's leaders.

Chen, from California, led Haverford with six assists, a total that was second-most in the league. Her 16 points from five goals and six assists trailed only Boyer on Haverord's scoring list while tying for fifth-most on the conference list. A senior midfielder from California, Chen struck four game-winners during the year which was second only to Boyer on the team and in the league.

Drexel University's Eve Badana, the Colonial Athletic Conference's defensive player of the year this season, was named the 2012 academic all-area team's performer of the year.
