Ali Lopez Named Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week

Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Ali Lopez of the Haverford College women's soccer team has been named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Lopez scored a pair of goals in the Fords' perfect 2-0 week as the team remained unbeaten with a 6-0-1 record to start the 2015 season.

Lopez started her week with the game-tying goal on the road against Lebanon Valley. Lopez's goal, which came in the 20th minute of play, knotted the score at one-all before Jo Haller went on to record the game-winning goal in the first extra time session.

The Fords' junior came back Saturday with the game's only scoring against Stevenson on Walton Field. During Haverford's 1-0 victory, Lopez finished a deflected pass from Skyler Ellenburg for the only offense the Fords needed on the afternoon.

With her two goal week, Lopez is now tied for the team lead with four goals on the season. She has now scored a goal in three straight games dating back to her game-tying effort in the draw vs. Dickinson to start Centennial Conference play. Each of Lopez's four goals have come within the past five matches, while she has recorded a point in five of the last six matches.

Women's soccer is off to its best start in program history through seven matches. The Fords also started out undefeated in their first seven matches of the 2009 and 2011 seasons but were 5-0-2 during each occasion. The Fords ran their unbeaten streak to eight matches with a 6-0-2 record during the 2009 season and went the first 12 matches of the 2011 season without a loss after starting 8-0-4.

The Fords will look to keep that momentum going with two more matches this week. The Fords wrap up non-conference play this Wednesday when Moravian comes to Walton Field for a 4:30 p.m. start. Centennial Conference play resumes this weekend when the Fords trek to Gettysburg for a 4 p.m. match.
