Women's Soccer Celebrates Seniors vs. Swarthmore

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team gave No. 14 Swarthmore all it could handle on Saturday as the team tried its best to send the two members of its senior class – Jo Haller and Lexi Williams – out with a victory. However, it was goal by Swarthmore's Hannah Lichtenstein that was the difference in the 1-0 season finale.

The Fords held an 11-7 edge in shots for the contest. This included an 8-3 advantage in shots during the final 45 minutes of game action. Haller led those offensive efforts with four shots during the contest. Skyler Ellenburg and Kristen Fiore also added three shots to the team's attack.

Each team had a pair of corner kick tries in the opening minutes of play. Both of those attempts yielded no offense for either side. The game's first shot was also the first goal as Lichtenstein scored her 11th goal of the year to put her side up 1-0 with the eventual game-winning goal.

Haverford's best offensive chances came when Kristen Fiore saw her shot saved in the 32nd minute of play. Fiore and Maryanna Solecki each sent a shot over the crossbar for Haverford in the final six minutes of the opening half.

Garnet goalie Reba Magier was called on to make three more saves during the final 45 minutes of play. Additionally, the Swarthmore defense knocked down three more shots before those attempts could reach the keeper in an effort to keep the Haverford offense off the board. Haverford goalie Ali Weiner was called on to make two saves to keep her team within striking distance throughout the afternoon.

Despite today's setback, Haller and Williams graduate as a part of 42 victories over their four year careers. This total includes 11 wins in 2015 to go along with a perfect 7-0 mark in non-conference action earlier this year. The duo has also helped the Fords advance to a pair of NCAA Tournaments and win the 2012 Centennial Conference Championship match.
