LANCASTER, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team got a goal from Raina Fitzpatrick during the 17th minute of its match at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. That tally would be all the offense the Fords (4-2-1, 2-0 CC) needed in a 1-0 blanking of the Diplomats (3-4-1, 0-2-1 CC). With that win, Haverford is one of three remaining undefeated teams in conference play along with McDaniel (3-0 CC) and Johns Hopkins (2-0 CC).

Fitzpatrick's goal was the first of her senior season and eighth of her Haverford career. Her goal came on a sliding shot into the left hand side of the goal following a short cross from Grace Mathis. Mathis was credited with her second assist of the season after she also set up the game-winning goal against St. Mary's last Saturday.

Even with just the one goal to show for its efforts, Haverford controlled the tempo for the entire 90 minutes as the Fords racked up a 17-3 advantage in shots. Haverford put seven of those attempts on goal, while Julie Hanss was called on to make two saves for her third shutout of the season. The visitors also held a 7-1 edge in corner kick attempts.

Five different players recorded multiple shots on Saturday, while a total of eight different players finished with a shot. Mathis led the team with four shots on the afternoon. Fitzpatrick was joined by Leanne Ludwick as the two players who finished with three shots. Fitzpatrick put two of those attempts on net.

Her goal came on Haverford's ninth shot of the afternoon as the Fords peppered the Diplomats' goal for a total of nine shots during the first 16-plus minutes of game action. Hanss made her only two saves of the contest during the 16th and 33rd minutes of the opening half.

Women's soccer will be at home on Walton Field for both of its games this week. The Fords host Widener at 4 p.m. on Wednesday in what will be the team's final non-conference game until the middle of October. Next Saturday, fellow conference unbeaten Johns Hopkins comes to Walton Field for a 1 p.m. start.
