HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team has not allowed a goal since the opening weekend of the season thanks to a stellar defense which continues to shine. After this past week where the Fords recorded two more shutouts, Emily Thissen became the latest Haverford star to be honored as the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Thissen is the second straight Ford to earn this honor after goalkeeper Hannah Friedrich was named the defensive player of the week during the previous period.

The Fords have not conceded a goal over the last 273:59 of playing time during their four-match winning streak. This past week, Haverford continued its lockdown efforts by allowing the opposition very few chances as Eastern and Widener were held to a total of just seven shots over those two shutout victories.

Right in the middle of it all was Thissen as the junior co-captain and her backline teammates allowed just three shots on goal against Eastern. The Fords ramped up their efforts even more against Widener as they allowed just one single shot against the previously undefeated Pride.

Haverford's defense has allowed just 0.89 goals against average so far this season, an average that currently ranks fifth all-time in school history. Combined with an offense that is averaging 2.60 goals per match during the early part of the season, it is easy to see why the Fords are riding a four-match winning streak into this week. Haverford has outscored its opponents by a 13-1 margin during its current winning streak.

Women's soccer will look to keep its winning ways going this week with two more home contests. The Fords battle Immaculata on Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. before Alvernia comes to campus this Saturday for a 1 p.m. start. Those matches represent the final non-conference contests on the slate before the Fords get ready for Centennial Conference action the following week.
