Women's Tennis Gets Past TCNJ, 4-3

HAVERFORD, Pa. The Haverford College women's tennis team (4-4) secured a hard-fought 4-3 victory over TCNJ (4-5) in a competitive battle on the Bramall side of the Bettye Marshall and Norman B. Bramall Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon.

TCNJ started strong in doubles play, as Elizabeth Ring and Gabriella Robinson defeated Lucy King and Caroline Gay 6-2 on court three. The Lions then clinched the doubles point on court two, where Aira Abalos and Anusha Perinkolam bested Abhishree Menon and Erika Phanord 6-3. In the final doubles match, Zoey Albert and Shruti Mannan secured a 6-3 victory over Rachael Fitzgerald and Mallika Reddy on court one.

Leading 1-0, TCNJ extended its advantage to 2-0 on court six, with Gabrielle Brideau earning a 6-3, 6-0 win over Gay. Haverford responded as Phanord put the Fords on the board with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Robinson on court four.

The match was tied at 2-2 after Fitzgerald delivered a hard-fought win on court one, rallying past Albert 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4 tiebreak).

With momentum shifting back towards the hosts, King gave the Fords a 3-2 lead by securing a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Abalos on court two. Reddy then clinched the decisive fourth point for Haverford, defeating Mannan 6-1, 6-2 on court three.

The final singles match finished after Haverford's clinch and featured a grueling battle between Menon and Ring on court five, with Ring edging out a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9 tiebreak) victory. 

The Fords will now return to Centennial Conference play, as women's tennis hits the road for their next matchup, facing Centennial Conference foe Franklin & Marshall in Lancaster, Pa., on Sunday, April 6, at 11 a.m.
