EWING, N.J. - The Haverford College women's outdoor track & field team claimed several high finishes at the TCNJ Invitational hosted by The College of New Jersey on Saturday.
The top-five finishers in the 1,500-meter run were all Fords as Cara Keifer's career-best time of 4 minutes, 43.42 seconds led the effort. Running the 1,500 for the first time during the outdoor season, Fiona Hendry placed second in 4:44.59. Sara Hess and Emily Scott followed in third and fourth, respectively, and Kara McMahon took fifth.
Haverford runners also finished on top in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with Chelsea Thorsheim's season-best time of 11:41.60 pacing the field. Thorsheim's effort currently tops the Centennial Conference performance list. Freshman Maggie Heffernan's time of 12:02.87 was good for second. Heffernan, competing in the event for just the second time in her career, trimmed over 13 seconds off her initial effort this season.
Participating in the 3,000-meter run for the first time, Hope Rainey placed sixth with a time of 10:30.39. Nora Weathers (10:30.92) closely followed in seventh. Kelley Riffenburgh's outdoor-best time of 10:34.77 was good for eighth.
Also running well on Saturday was senior Hannah Davis who finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 1:05.71. Davis' performance ranks third in the Centennial this season.
Sophomore Katherine Greifeld's outdoor-best time of 2:25.83 almost cracked the top 10 in the 800 as she finished 11th.
The Fords had a strong showing in the relay events as they took first in the 4x1,500 and fourth in the 4x100. The 4x1,500 quartet of McMahon, Hess, Sheera Rosenbaum and Keifer established a new school record with a time of 19:52.33.
Sophomore Carolyn Oehrig had a busy day as she finished third in the high jump and ninth in the 100-meter hurdles.
Senior Allison Guindon placed fifth in the pole vault while Emma Kornetsky completed Haverford's day in field events with a third in the long jump and a ninth-place finish in the triple jump.
The Fords return to action on Friday when the squad takes part in the Widener Invitational hosted by Widener University.
