Women’s Track & Field Captures Third Place at the WCU Bill Butler Invitational

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The Haverford College Women's track and Field Team competed in the WCU Bill Butler Invitational Saturday. Going up against 20 other schools, Haverford took home third place, after scoring 74.33 points.

At the 100 meters, Olivia D'Aulerio slotted into fifth place with a time of 12.88. Nadine Tang grabbed 15th place with a time of 13.38, while Sophie Gardiner placed 45th with a time of 14.86.

Over at the 200 meters, D'Aulerio zoomed to a fourth place finish (five points) with a time of 26.92. Her teammate Tang raced to a time of 28.59, to come away with 35th place.

In the 400 meters, 2024 William W. Ambler '45 award winner Isabel Thornberry claimed a big 10 points for the Fords, finishing in first place with a time of 59.24. Brianna Feifer slid into 20th place with a time of 1:08.85, a new personal best. To cap off the Haverford trio was Maya Holmes, who claimed 28th place with a time of 1:14.27.

Dominique Monroy paced the Scarlet and Black in the 800 meters, as the junior took home third place (six points) with a time of 2:25.79. Carly Priest came in 14th place (2:31.99), while Sophia Furman finished in 23rd (2:39.85, new personal best). 

At the 1500 meter run, Anastasia Jaycobs led the Haverford contingent, placing sixth with a time of 5:06.24, to put up three more points for the Fords. The time was .22 seconds faster than her personal best time of 5:06.64 in the event. Following Jaycobs was Jessie Hausman, who finished the trek in 13th with a time of 5:14.44. Hausman was able to beat her previous personal best of 5:18.96 by about 4.5 seconds! Julianna Watson placed 26th with a time of 5:31.61, while Audrey Carter crossed the finish line in 34th place with a time of 5:45.26. Judy Xie capped off the Haverford quintet by finishing in 38th with a time of 5:50.89, good for a new personal best.

The Fords dominated the 3000 meter steeplechase, placing all four of their runners in the top four. It was Savannah Shaw taking home first place and adding 10 points to the scoreboard, with an impressive time of 12:14.24. Tacking on another eight points in second place was Alice Sappenfield, who crossed the finish line in 12:30.47. Right behind Sappenfield was Poppy Chrisman, who's time of 12:56.03 was good for third place and six more points towards Haverford's score. Rounding out the Scarlet and Black quartet was Krysta Nichols, who contributed five points and fourth place finish with a time of 13:06.56.

At the 400 meter hurdles, Rachel November garnered seventh place (two points), leaping over the hurdles with a time of  1:15.91.

The Scarlet and Black claimed another 10 points, by finishing first in the 4X400 meter relay. The team of D'Aulerio, Monroy, Jaycobs, and Thornberry claimed first place, after sprinting to a time of 4:08.37.

Over at the jumping area, Thornberry secured 0.33 of a point by tying for eighth place in the women's high jump. Thornberry leaped to a total distance of 1.35 meters (4 feet and 5 inches) in her event debut. 

In the sand, Adriana Cruz-Soto leapt 4.71 meters (15 feet and 5 inches), good for 12th place.

At the throwing pit, Summer Ryan launched the shot put 8.64 meters (28 feet, 4.2 inches), taking home 22nd place. 

The Fords will be back in action Friday, April 19, in Chester, Pa. for the Paul Donahue Invitational. The two-day event will take place at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium on the campus of Widener University, with Friday evening's events starting at 5 p.m.
