COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Several members of the Haverford College women's track & field team helped the Fords get off to a good start on Friday evening in the Centennial Conference outdoor championships hosted by Ursinus College.

Haverford sits in a tie for fourth with 10 points after the initial day of the three-day championship meet. Johns Hopkins University registered 22 points to move out to the early lead with two events scored. Franklin & Marshall College and Muhlenberg College followed in second and third with 12 points and 11 points, respectively. Gettysburg College joined the Fords in the tie for fourth to round out the top five.

Junior Emily Scott came through with a career-best time of 38 minutes, 0.14 second to finish fourth in the 10,000-meter run and deliver five points to the Haverford cause. Classmate Flora Berklein added four more points to the team's total with a fifth-place finish in 38:16.73.

Senior Allison Guindon accounted for another point with an eighth-place showing in the pole vault.

Carolyn Oehrig will finish competing in the first heptathlon of her career on Saturday. The sophomore competed in four of the seven events comprising the heptathlon on Friday.

Action resumes at Ursinus on Saturday morning and will continue throughout the day. The 4x800 relay, slated to start at 4:20 p.m., will cap the day's events. The Fords will have several opportunities to add to their point total as the 3,000m steeplechase and 110m hurdles will also take place on the track. Field events contested on Saturday include the high jump, long jump and discus. Haverford will also compete in the trials of several other events including the 100, 200, 400 and 800.
