Women's track finishes weekend at Widener Invite

CHESTER, Pa. - The Haverford College women's track and field team finished off the weekend at the Widener (University) Invitational with a strong day that saw numerous Fords deliver career-best performances.

Brittany Steele continued her impressive freshman campaign with a standout day that saw the sprinter take second in the 100-meter dash and fifth in the 200. Steele's career-best time of 12.67 seconds in the 100 solidified her hold on second on the Centennial Conference performance list while her time of 26.23 in the 200 ranks third among conference times this season.

Carolyn Oehrig provided the Fords with another high finish in the 100-meter hurdles as the junior placed second with a career-best time of 16.54.

Haverford placed two in the top 15 of the field of over 40 runners in the 1,500-meter run. Sophomore Nora Weathers placed fifth with a career-best time of 4 minutes, 38.47 seconds while senior Emily Scott finished 15th (4:52.39). Weathers' time ranks fourth among Centennial performances this season.

Junior Katie Balmer and freshman Clarice Bourland ran well in the 800. The duo finished in ninth and 10th, respectively, with season-best times of 2:22.14 and 2:22.46.

Seniors Nora Howe and Chelsea Thorsheim finished fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Howe's career-best time of 12:06.73 currently ranks sixth among conference performances this season.

Stephanie Kahn provided another career-best time in the 400 as the senior placed 14th in 1:02.80.

Junior Kimberly Haughton led the effort off the track with an eighth-place finish in the long jump.

The Fords finished fourth in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

Haverford returns to action on Tuesday as the Fords participate in a home meet at Johnson Track beginning at 4 p.m.
