PHILADELPHIA – The Haverford College women's track & field team officially kicked off the outdoor season with eight runners competing at the Philadelphia College Classic. The meet was hosted at historic Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.

The Fords evenly split their eight individual entrants among two events. Katie Sullivan highlighted the Fords' day with a runner-up finish to La Salle's Michelle Myland in the 1,500 meters. Sullivan's time of 4:52.8 was just over four seconds behind the pace of the NCAA Division I winner and ranks 21st in NCAA Division III in the very early going as of press time.

Amelia Keyser-Gibson won the second heat, placing fourth overall in the event, with a time of 4:58.5. Maggie Heffernan gave the Fords three top 10 finishes in the field of 21 runners as she finished in a time of 5:00.7 to place seventh. Katherine Greifeld just missed a top 10 finish with a time of 5:03.0, placing 11th overall.

In the 3,000 meters, Nicole Giannetti turned in the 10th fastest outdoor time in school history as she placed 18th overall with a time of 10:25.5. Her time won the second of two heats. Sarah Wade (10:44.3), MaryKate Cavanaugh (11:21.7), and Margaret Duffy (11:38.2) also ran in the second heat that was paced by Giannetti.

The outdoor track & field season continues next weekend when the Fords travel to Widener for the Danny Curran Meet. That meet will take place over two days, Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28.
