Women's Track & Field Completes Second Day at Widener Invitational

WIDENER, Pa. – The Haverford College women's track & field team wrapped up the second day of competition at the Widener Invitational with another individual event champion as Maggie Heffernan was the first runner across the line in the steeplechase. Her win comes on the heels of Charlotte Lellman's 5,000 meter victory on Friday night.

Heffernan's win in the steeplechase came in a time of 11:22.67. That mark moves her up to sixth in the school record books. Her time topped her nearest competitor by over 11 seconds. Heffernan's new personal best time ranks 31st in Division III as of press time. Nicole Giannetti finished fourth in the steeplechase, becoming the 10th fastest individual in program history. She finished with a time of 11:49.71.

The Fords also had a pair of runners move up the all-time school rankings in the 100 meter hurdles. Mairead Ferry finished third in that field with a time of 15.47 seconds. Her new personal best makes her the seventh quickest individual in school history. Carolyn Oehrig was eighth in the event with a time of 16.50 seconds, keeping her inside the College's top 10 for the event.

In the other sprints, Brittany Steele finished fifth in 100 meter dash (12.94) and eighth in the 200 meters (27.05). Steele also anchored the 4x100 relay team that finished runner-up to Widener with a time of 50.94 seconds. Natasha Stanley, Oehrig, and Sedona Murphy ran the first three legs of the 4x100 relay. The 4x400 relay of Oehrig, Katie Sullivan, Katherine Greifeld, and Murphy placed fifth overall with a time 4:13.64.

In the middle distances, Murphy added a third place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.56. Greifeld was 10th with a mark of 2:22.68 in the 800 meters, while Sullivan was the runner-up in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:48.01. Sarah Wade was 10th in that same event with a time of 4:58.72.

The Fords also had two jumpers and three throwers compete on Saturday. Elizabeth Reikowski (4.54m) and Kimberly Haughton (4.37m) placed 14th and 17th in the long jump, respectively. Emily Anderson's shot put throw of 31'11.5" (9.74m) gave her a top 10 finish. Stanley (9.03m) and Juanita St. Thomas-Grimes (8.57m) placed 17th in 21st in the shot put, respectively.

The Fords have one full week of competition remaining in the regular season before the Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Muhlenberg. On Tuesday, Haverford will host its only home outdoor meet of the year at 5 p.m. The Fords will also travel to The College of New Jersey on Saturday during the upcoming week.
